BREAK BAD IF YOU WANT TO.
Break Bad if you want to. In the end, it doesn’t change a single thing. You are still on the path you were put on. Walter White was going to die any which way you slice it, drug king pin or chemistry teacher. The guy had terminal cancer. Vince Gilligan describes “Breaking Bad,” like this. It is an American Southeast colloquialism that means raise hell, push the boundaries you feel safe and capable of. Define it for your self as the difference between night and day.
To Break Bad you have to see the light differently from one day to the next. I captured a true moment on my Babcock Trail walk this Saturday. Walt’s transformation is arguably not for everyone but it is the most extreme of examples that helps us think and relate back to our own lives.
I shot this selfie. I was glad to take a break from work and the rest of the elements that spin my life and got right smack in front of the light. Inspiration on the trails was everywhere. There are chemical reactions in nature everywhere, just as many in all probability as reactions in controlled environments. When the chemistry of this fallen tree limb changed, it opened a path for new organisms to grow. Walter White says, “Chemistry is, well technically, chemistry is the study of matter. But I prefer to see it as the study of change.”
So everything and everyone is changing all the time. That is fact, use that information to your advantage. I used the inspirations from the colors on the tree to create my inspiration for a Renovation. The inspiration is nature, pattern, change and the color green.
I am excited for the renovation. It will represent everything that http://www.tigerlilysgreenwich.com has to stand for with some Breaking Bad chemistry. I am going for new and vintage moments, a bit of commercial and natural, and designed to function cabinetry.
It doesn’t hurt to look at your inspiration twice. I still am breathless when I look at all the color the universe in nature was able to create. Nature is the ultimate creation and as a designer I feel compelled to repeat and celebrate how good it can be. Break Bad if you want to, that’s what I say. Everyday look to do something just a little bit different that is outside your comfort zone. In the end the story is written so you might as well fill in some pages in between. And no half measures folks, make it count. Do it well and do it for yourself. When it ends That’s all you really have.
“I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it. And, I was really…I was alive” Walter White
