At a time when everyone wants neutrals, solids or go a bit bolder to textured solids, it nice to see a collection of fabrics that pushes patterns, color and textures. Manuel Canovas dates back to 18th century France. This year’s collection re-interpretes classic designs and tastes in a contemporary way.
Given the opportunity to reupholster a client’s existing club chair, we decided to move away from a solid neutral linen to showcase the “Samira” from the new Manuel Canovas collection. The fabric is a cotton linen base with a silk thread embroidery.
With a big print, you have to pick the areas where you want to match the seams. I like to start with the main part of the pattern in the center of the chair and work out from the center like an umbrella. When it comes to match, it is important to get the front of the chair first. Here the cushion matches to the platform.
AFTER: I love the way this chair turned out. The scale of the pattern is bold and says a lot about the person who lives with it. Deepak Chopra said, “A person is a pattern of behavior, of a larger awareness.” This chair is perfect for that person 🙂
