BEFORE & AFTER: MANUEL CANOVAS COMEBACK

MANUEL CANOVAS
SAMIRA

At a time when everyone wants neutrals, solids or go a bit bolder to textured solids, it nice to see a collection of fabrics that pushes patterns, color and textures. Manuel Canovas dates back to 18th century France. This year’s collection re-interpretes classic designs and tastes in a contemporary way.

SQUARE ARM CLUB CHAIR
SOLID FABRIC REMOVED

BEFORE:

Given the opportunity to reupholster a client’s existing club chair, we decided to move away from a solid neutral linen to showcase the “Samira” from the new Manuel Canovas collection. The fabric is a cotton linen base with a silk thread embroidery.

SEWING SEAMS TO MATCH

With a big print, you have to pick the areas where you want to match the seams. I like to start with the main part of the pattern in the center of the chair and work out from the center like an umbrella.   When it comes to match, it is important to get the front of the chair first. Here the cushion matches to the platform.

AFTER: I love the way this chair turned out. The scale of the pattern is bold and says a lot about the person who lives with it. Deepak Chopra said, “A person is a pattern of behavior, of a larger awareness.” This chair is perfect for that person 🙂

REUPHOLSTERY WANTED

BEFORE & AFTER:ROBSHAW TO THE RESCUE

BEFORE: The chair is pink but it is also green. I love when a client reupholsters an older piece. It a way to recycle, reuse and renew furniture that might otherwise end up in a land fill.

Conscious living, celebrating the earth and everything that abounds is a lifestyle choice. I believe that clients that reupholster with http://www.tigerlilysgreenwich.com live with awareness and can appreciate preservation.

With this in mind, I selected a John Robshaw fabric for this. John is a friend, preservationist, eco-conscious creator and cultural champion. His line of  textiles, bedding and home accessories are a study of his travels and evoke happy and brilliant thought.  He once said:

“By producing my textiles abroad, I get to become a minor character in the lives of the people I work with, and I can take inspiration from what I see and do there. I go to their weddings, celebrate their festivals, I get sick with them, I develop relationships with the people who are teaching me. When you look at my textiles, its like you’ve been on the world tour along with me.”

ALGIERS LOTUS

The chair already had a powder pink fabric on it. To keep it simple and working with the existing interior of the home, I picked a fabric with a hotter pink punch that Robshaw features in “Algiers Lotus.” I paired it with a Fushia welting that we created from Robert Allen’s Cabin Weave.

AFTER:
The finished result of this chair is whimsy and fresh. I love the detail of the welting that brings out the darker hues in the dye. Robshaw uses artisans to print his textiles so no two are ever quite the same. The welt helps add reference to the color and brings a decorative feature to life.

REUPHOLSTERED AND RENEWED

I leave most blogs with a quote. Today I leave one from John Robshaw who upon contemplating his choices in colors and patterns had this to say:  “I have a chaotic color sense.  It helps me come up with more unusual palettes-for better or worse!”

Thanks John for pushing the boundaries. It helps us all be daring and bold!

BEFORE & AFTER: A MIRROR’S IMAGE

AMERICAN HISTORY X

BEFORE:
This is a mirror of Monticello. I see it clearly hanging on the walls of the historic presidential retreat. It signifies everything that is America. Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration of Independence and critical thinking that brought about ideals of life, liberty, equality and the pursuit of happiness.

I bought the look and feelings the style and shape evoke. It is a American Federal Style Convex mirror with eagle surmount ca. first half of the 20th century.

AFTER:  The finish needed an update to work with contemporary color stories. I chose a blue to play off  Red, White & Blue of american heritage. In small and meaningful placement, it brings out the details of the Eagle, leaves and bullets.  I painted directly over the old finish to give layers of color and age and play to the idea that change can happen by working with what is existing, rather then starting from scratch.

AFTER:
THE FUTURE OF AMERICA

I like to leave all blogs with a quote. For this, I select Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson said, “I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.” Think ahead and plan the outcome. Jefferson saw and put in motion ideals and platforms for the perfect society to grow and be nourished in. I am forever thankful to live and work in this wonderful country USA. It is has returned to me as much as I have given. I hope it has done the same for you!

THE “I” OF TIGER OR SHARK: IAN ZIERING SHOPS OUR STORE

THE “I” OF TIGER OR SHARK…IAN ZIERING SHOPS OUR STORESHARKNADO

Millions of viewers tuned into SyFy channel two-weeks ago to watch our very good friend, Ian Ziering take on man eating-sharks and a natural disaster in the made for TV movies that mixes kitsch, imagination, humor, animal terror, hotties, surfers, LA in a way that caused a viral twitter sensation world wide. In fact, not to be morbid but I will in the interest of all the blood and guts, it was the very last thing Glee star Cory Monteith tweeted about before he overdosed.

Moving on, I caught up with Ian Ziering at http://www.tigerlilysgreenwich.com this week. Just a short time later and all this super hype, Ian still the same old down to earth, true friend kind of guy. I am a long time supporter of the skin products that he uses to keep his skin as amazingly youthful as the very days he graced the halls of Beverly Hills High School in 90210.  That’s how we became friends.  Nuskin (http://www.nuskin.com) has a laundry list of products that keep your body both internally and externally feeling and looking great. This isn’t a celebrity endorsement, it is me talking. I use the goods. Try it yourself!

I have to say that I loved that he wore the shark tee-shirt on the visit to the store. Ian told me that the feedback for the movie is like its own perfect storm and completely worldwide. Plans are already in motion for the sharks to take on New York City and more. He’s a busy guy so we moved quickly onto interior design. From sharks to tigers, we worked the beginning stages of a project, that also plays to wild side. Ian selected a few cheetah prints for a pair of chairs.IMG_2395

Back to sharks and the ocean in which they swim, friends understand this… there are many fish in the sea. My advise is to chose the right one? If your out fishing for interior design services or before & after needs, hook Tiger Lily’s. We are one-of-a-kind, respect and remember old friends and clients while looking forward to the new.

Not only a place but celebrate and return its value. All we are is our history people, so live around stuff that matters. What matters is history, family, legacy, tradition and that’s why Tiger Lily’s.

BEFORE:

I found these tables at an antique center in Connecticut. Aged with a mahogany finish and terribly scratched. I like the size, elegant carved legs, and simply structure that the pair present. I immediately see the potential.

AFTER:

I left part of the finish revealed. With cheese cloth, I layered white and gold hues with the purpose of bring out the existing wood finish. The look is new and fresh. You can go to Restoration Hardware babe, you won’t these there. Individual, expressive, historic, that is how I describe myself and that is how I describe what I make. Come into http://www.tigerlilysgreenwich.com. Support us, give feedback let me know what you think.

I like to leave my blog in quote: “A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life,” said Charles Darwin. I value life and lifestyle. This is a great ride friends and I count not be more thankful for the people who appreciate that.
