JERRY MCGUIRE MANIFESTO #12: CASH MONEY AIN’T A THING

Welcome back the Jerry McGuire Manifesto and the lesson on giving. From one of the greatest leaders and thinkers of the 20th Century I start with this thought: “Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.”  Perhaps not the most remembered quote from Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.,  but one that speaks to volumes as the question arises, will you give and what will you give when the return is greater for the recipient then to you?

Tiger Lily’s Greenwich exercises “Pro-Social Behavior.” That is a fancy social-science term that encompasses how level through which people or organizations empathize with others and give to those in need.  On May 11th, the Metro New York North Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted its annual Red & White Ball with media sponsor Cottages & Gardens.

We created a memorable table for supporters and diners at the event. The inspiration for table settings was the Spirit of America. I found in a nod to the water. I also found it in the very theory of giving back. When you give, pick a starting point. I layered the elements of this table around the anchor of a ship’s wheel using a fabric donated from Kravet, Brunschwig & Fils Bamboo Trellis.

Statistically, people give to charity. According to charitynavigator.org, the total giving to charitable organizations was $298.42 billion in 2011 (about 2% of GDP). This is an increase of 4% from 2010. People give when their is need. I took it one step further. Having a charitable heart, I went out to test the waters. Will people give when their is just passion? Will people give when you can technically get it on your own, going down a more challenging road?

I launched a campaign on Rockethub. Click the icon below to see the campaign. Rockethub is a crowd sourcing platform for creative thinkers, entrepreneurs and dreamers who have an idea and need some financial support. I have to say putting your dreams on a public platform surprisingly is a very personal experience. It is interesting to see when it comes to support and giving just who comes out to play ball? Honestly, it runs a range, those who I immediately thought would run to their computers and drop a $10.00 bill have yet to log-on and the random acts of kindness of people I never expected balance each other out.

I still need support. I am asking anyone who has had a dream, or a goal to log-on and fund. There are a couple of neat prizes you can pick up too! I wouldn’t ask for nothing 🙂 Lets start our own statistics about who gives and why? Let be for charity and dream seekers a like. Support in all its forms make the world go around.

Every little piece helps. All the little pieces come together to create something wonderful and big. When you step back and look from above the small little pieces joined by love and support create a big picture.

Thanks Friends!
